Motts Trail

June 8, 1985

Met at Tom Tom Restaurant in Roseburg at 9:30 a.m. Weather was cloudy. Drove to Mott trailhead at Wright Creek Bridge about 35 miles north on Highway 138, the North Umpqua Highway. Blue Sky by this time.

Hiked Into Mott Trail 1¼ miles to McDonald Cabin trail. Mott Trail is adjacent to the North Umpqua River. The trail to the cabin is very steep for one mile. The old cabin and some of its belongings are still there. Some took pictures, we all inspected, then came down to John Creek and ate lunch on the river bank.

Went back to cars and saw and talked to people rafting the river. There were 4 rafts with 7 people each. From this hike we drove down to Fall Creek Falls (about 4 miles) and finished our perfect hiking weather day with a hike into the falls. All seemed to enjoy the area. Lots of poison oak and ticks right now!

Mott Trail hikers were Melinda Curry, Gladys Grancorvitz, Mae Jackson, Rachel Major, Lloyd Plaisted, Doug Schultz and leader Gwen Easterly.
