Tahkenitch to Three Mile Lake

May 4, 1985

It was a beautiful day to check out the trail cut last fall from Tahkenitch Campground direct, with a few switchbacks, to the dunes at the northwest end of Three Mile Lake. With the late starting time we were ready for lunch at that point, and privileged to witness Obsidian Hank Plant of the UO German Dept. entertain us with a dip in the lake. He had brought a student group down, but only one student dared follow him into the water, and not for long. Hank stayed in a few minutes but early May isn’t summer in Oregon.

After lunch we made or completed the loop now possible and returned via the dunes, beach, and the old trail back to our cars. Two cars stopped at Arlene’s in Elkton for huge pieces of pie, the driver of the third remained faithful to Alpha Bits in Mapleton so we didn’t see them again.

Suzanne Steussy and Ted Castell did their bit for the cause by carrying away some litter from the beach. Others also enjoying the trip were Dee Bray, Dorinda Bankston, Genie Currier, Gladys Grancorvitz, Jeanie Holmes, Addle Lou Mertens, Alys Piley, Allan Sorenson, M. Walter, Ethel Stuessy, and leader Robin Steussy.
