Pengra Pass-Midnight Lake

March 17, 1984

Rain in Eugene and on the way to Gold Lake Snow Park did not provide for a great deal of enthusiasm on the start of this beginners cross-country ski trip. Luckily as often happens, things got better and a snow start turned into partial sunshine and a pleasant trip.

Ten skiers gathered at the Gold Lake Snow Park and started up toward Pengra Pass about 10:30 a.m. It was snowing, the snow was sticking to skis and the trail required breaking. Several in the group shared trail breaking duties; the snowfall lessened and by the time we reached the lower Midnight Lake loop road we decided to try for Midnight Lake. Although we needed to break trail all the way we were rewarded by bright sunshine for our lunch at Midnight Lake. The trip down was a new experience for several in the group, but we took our time and everyone made it back to the cars safely, although there may have been a few tired and sore muscles for J. Hinricks, Brian, Diane, Glenn and Lisa Longworth, John Potter, Gerry Tomseth, Joe Turner and leaders John and Janet Baker Jacobsen.
