Hoodoo Ski Area
February 5, 1984
Beginners cross-country ski trip left South High parking lot at 8:15 a.m. Spent the morning in Hoodoo Bowl with four beginners teaching basic cross-country ski technique along the edge of the trees where the sun was softening the morning crust. The other five skied to the highway and back on the old Hoodoo access trail.
We had a tailgate lunch in the parking lot at noon in the sunshine—lots of it—both lunch and sunshine.
In the p.m. 7 of us skied to the road junction near Big Lake and back to Hoodoo Bowl (approx. 6 miles) on Big Lake Road. We used the road because the snowmobilers had made the crust into beautiful corn snow that was just ideal to ski on.
Left Hoodoo at 4 p.m. to Eugene. Skiers to Big Lake in p.m. were Lenore and John McManigal, Corinne Hunt, Alys Riley, Ethel Weltman, and Donna and Bill Eimstad. Paula Vehrs and Ethel and George Walker remained in the bowl.
