Maxwell Butte

February 4, 1984

Saturday, February 4th was a sunny day as our group left Eugene for Maxwell Butte. We quickly discovered upon our arrival at the trailhead that trail numbers change. (It helps to use a map that’s current!)

Our group of six hardy skiers tromped on 80% vegetation and 20% junk snow until we reached tree line. Once at tree line we spotted Maxwell Butte and headed for the base of the Butte where we stopped for lunch. Clear views of the Sisters and Mt Washington made the poor snow conditions tolerable.

The trip out went quickly as we found the correct trail. All-in-all it was a fine day with splendid companionship. Those completing the trip were Bob Predick, Zola Miller, Mary Vogel, Carolyn Kompanh and friend, & leader Sam Miller.
