Ash Swale-Eagles Rest
December 8, 1984
Left Lowell at 9 a.m., drove to the lower end of the Ash Swale Trail and hiked up
past the Shelter, crossed the upper road end climbed on up to the top of Eagles Rest.
Arrived there at noon.
Took time to discuss with our Forest Service guests a proposed cutting line from just
above the shelter to the upper road called the Bandit Timber Sale, Clear Cut Unit #7.
They offered to adjust the line to reduce the impact on the trail which most of us on
the trip were pleased to accept.
We arrived back at the cars about 3 p.m. having experienced a pleasant day free of rain.
Sixteen folks who enjoyed the trip were Joe Austin, Dallas Cole, Emmy Dale, Alan Estler,
Judy Forell, Bob Foster, Marj Mountainsong, Virginia Prouty, Betty Legris, Suzanne Steussy,
E. Wilkerson, and guests from the Lowell Ranger Station—Dave Bishop, Ron Humphrey,
and Cliff Mitchell, plus Obsidian leader Helen Smith.
