Hardesty Mountain

October 21, 1984

This schedule (Big Cowhorn Mountain hike-climb—threatened by just too-oo-o much Willamette Pass snow and foul weather—changed itself quite easily to a (Lowell District) Hardesty Mountain “look-see”, the area being in the news and all aflame by the threatened FS “Rotor” timber salvage sale. Driving the extent of FS Road 515, then squeezing under/over/around the many blockages, our small group examined at close range units of “Rotor”. Returning, a side trip up the mountain to Crale Creek Road crossing was made before plunging back down to Hwy 58 trailhead, there to observe Conservation Committee Chairman Dallas Cole’s masterly interview (subject: “Hardesty Mountain—here today, cut tomorrow. . .”) with KEZI-TV’s Brian Murray, later seen on local TV news channels. Hardesty hikers, lookers and spokespeople were Dallas Cole, Vi Johnson, Mary Ellen West, Meg Janacek-Wall, Earl Wall, Mike Williams, and leader John Cecil.
