Maxwell Butte

September 26, 1984

Three carloads of hikers left South gene Parking lot at 7:10 am. and arrived at the trailhead near milepost 79 on the North Santiam Highway two hours later. It was a lovely cool, clear morning with a good surface on the trail. We took short breaks at the Twin Lakes and again at the saddle where there is the first glimpse of the beautiful panorama to the south. Lunch on the top of Maxwell Butte in the warm sun gave us the chance to identify lakes and mountains and to enjoy the fine close view of Three Fingered Jack with its dusting of new snow.

The friendly hikers were Norm Benton, Helen Aldrich, Kevin Clark, Doris Helikson, Carol Houde, Catherine Jones, Wilma Moore, Lenore McManigal, Joyce Phillips, Bryant Mitchell, Prod Schepman, Robin Steussy, and leader Margaret Wiese.
