Dunes to Three Mile Lake

September 12, 1984

Nearly perfect weather shone on our coastal bound party as we assembled at the Lake Tahkenitch Campground. Dee Bray of Bandon met us there. The first part of the journey wound through the forest with underbrush of rhododendron, huckleberry, etc. Then we broke out onto the dunes and from there we pretty well made our way through unmarked sand to the top of the slope overlooking Three Mile Lake. Some descended to wade in the water while others reclined in the warm sunshine. We ate our lunch and then crossed the dunes to the beach and progressed northward, beachcombing until it was time and the place to move inland to join our trail through the woods. After parting from some who decided to stay at the beach for a time, the rest of us stopped at Alpha Bit in Mapleton for refreshments.

Our congenial crew made good time, with beautiful weather and will no doubt long for further coastal trips. Crew members were Dee Bray, Dallas Cole, Emmy Dale, Bob Emmich, Gladys Grancorvitz, Elizabeth McMullin, Stan Morris, Naomi Prouse, Sandy Sparks, Robin Steussy, Cynthia Stone, and leader Ewart Baldwin.
