Erma Bell Lakes

September 8, 1984

Left Eugene at 8:10 a.m. with rendevous at junction of Hwy 26 and Forest Rd 19, hence to Box Canyon and Skookum Creek Campground by 10:15 a.m. Weather cloudy and cool. After review of good behavior in wilderness and introductions, left the campground. Trail in excellent condition—recent rain had settled all dust—no puddles or mud. Stopped at Lower Erma Bell for rest and snacks. Viewed Middle Erma Bell briefly and decided to eat lunch there (11:45 a.m.). On trail again about 12:30 p.m., reaching Upper Erma Bell about 12:50 p.m. Eleven of our group elected to hike around Upper Erma Bell—joining an honored fraternity. One bravely went for a swim—brief swim. All enjoyed improving weather—glimpses of blue sky and sunshine. Left Upper Erma Bell at 2:15 p.m. and arrived back at Skookum Creek about 3:10 p.m.

All enjoyed the lakes, trees, a few flowers, small wildlife, occasional berries, and good fellowship—Dee Bray, Bob Foster, Corinne Hunt, Miki Hutchison, Mae Jackson, Judy, Julie and Toby Johnson, Sandra Larsen, Bryant Mitchell, Elizabeth McMullin, Jo Ann, Eric, and Hans Otto, Helen Rees, and leaders Jack and Joella Ewing.
