Yapoah Crater

August 18, 1984

The sky was clear and the day was warm. Our group began hiking at the trailhead near Lava Lake. We headed south along the Pacific Crest Trail past South Matthieu Lake. We crossed lava beds and reached the summit of Yapoah Crater at 1 p.m. All of the peaks from Mt Hood to the Sisters were visible. On our return trip we took an alternate route past North Matthieu Lake where some of us went swimming. It was a very pleasant summer day. Hikers were Dee Bray, Emmy Dale, Bill Dollemore, Bob Emmich, Carol Horvath, David Isenberg, Mae Jackson, Vi Johnson, Gary Marx, Naomi Prouso, Hans Tschersich, Paula Vehrs and leader Dave Predeek.
