North Umpqua Trail

April 28, 1984

Under mild ideal hiking conditions this small group walked the 5.5 miles from the Wright Creek bridge to the Steamboat Ranger Station. Along the way we found many flowers, plants, mossy rocks and stumps, not to mention the sound of the North Umpqua River and its white water rapids most all the way. We also crossed on footbridges, several creeks along the way including the one where Zane Gray had his fishing camp.

One car was left at trail’s end (Ranger Station) so did not backtrack the trail. This allowed us to stop and see the Glide Wild Flower Show held this weekend.

The trail was good and the lunch by the river was enjoyed by all. Those making this trip were Dee Bray from Bandon, Ted Castell, Jane Hackett, Wes Prouty and leader Lloyd Plaisted.
