Eugene-to-Pacific Crest Trail

May 19, 1984

The initial trip of the trail construction season was successful in accomplishing the objective, thanks to a large and enthusiastic crew of volunteers. The sun shone as we loosened up muscles which had been dormant all winter. The crew reworked the trail westward from Squaw Butte road to the Sierra camp at Pepper Creek Meadow. Lunch was particularly pleasant on the striking “Neckles” on the south side of Heckletooth Mountain. The right good crew consisted of Ted Castell, Dallas Cole, Bob, Emmich, Shirley Froyd, Vi Johnson, Jeanette Haugen (trail crew leader, Oakridge Ranger District), Jane Tucker, Michael Thompson (on assignment for Sunset Magazine), Millard Thomas, Gary Rayor, Mary Ellen West and leader Jerold Williams.
