East of Hayrick

April 9, 1983

It was lightly snowing when we left the snow park area by Hayrick. Hayrick quickly faded from view as we traveled easily over excellent snow conditions for XC skiing. Since we were not following any trail system, we took advantage of many small hills and valleys for some fun downhill skiing and just touring wherever we felt like going. This trip was scheduled for April hoping for spring-type weather and beautiful views of Mt, Washington, etc. However, after lunch at about noon, and after a slight clearing of clouds, the next storm arrived. With the snow blowing horizontally and near blizzard conditions, we turned back west towards Hayrick. The only sure way to confirm this was by compass. After stopping once for some downhill runs, we arrived back at the snow park at 2:30 p.m.

Skiers were Gladys Grancorvitz, Bonnie Ledford, Mike and Bill Niems, Ruth Romoser and Al Niems, leader.
