Midnight Lake Loop

February 13, 1983

Good snow conditions greeted the seven of us who left Eugene under drizzling skies. Snow on the trail was so good, in fact, that we zipped up to Midnight Lake, ate lunch, and were back to the parking lot before 1:30 p.m. Not wanting to waste a good afternoon, we drove on up to the Willamette Pass ski area and got in some practice on Telemarks on their groomed downhill slopes.

For those who may want to try this in the future, be advised that the bunny hill is free to XC skiers, but there is a $2.00 charge for use of other slopes. Midnight Lake via Deer Creek Road makes a nice loop trip. Done clockwise it avoids the tricky downhill curves through the trees on the way out and provides a good mile or more downhill run on the road. A fun day. Skiers were Bob Devine, Pam Ekker, Ann Johnson, Sandra Larsen, Herb Lee, Tom Woxell and leader, Leona Mattson.
