McKenzie River Trail

November 26, 1983

Middle Section

We left Eugene at 9 a.m. The weather was cold but dry, and the sun even came out a couple of times. We started at the south end of Trail Bridge Reservoir. The trail was in excellent condition. There was some snow along the trail. We had lunch at Deer Creek, then continued south to Buck Bridge.* We finished hiking around 2:15 p.m. Transportation was accomplished using a car shuttle. We returned to Eugene after the obligatory stop at the Village Cafe, arriving around 4:30 p.m. Hikers were Janet Leavitt from San Diego, Judith Engle, Kathy Perkins, Masahiko Taiko, Ted Castell, and members George Jobanek, and leader Margaret Hadaway.

*Along this section of the trail, we came upon a woman who had contracted with the Forest Service to clear all 26 miles of the McKenzie River Trail. She was using a chain saw to trim small weeds and bushes along the trail.
