Eel Creek

November 12, 1983

Eel Creek was not sunny and clear this year as it has been in the past. Instead, we were treated to a great display of the winter weather at the Oregon Coast. Fortunately, rain was not the main ingredient of the day. We were greeted by moderately high winds, but not nearly as high as this time two years ago.

We hiked out across the dunes and to the north in hopes of avoiding the water in the deflation plane. I would like to report a dry crossing, but that is not the way it was. We just had less distance to cover with our shoes on or off in water up to our knees.

We congregated on the beach for a short lunch, watching the surf roll in and the sky change from broken clouds and a little sun to black. As the next wave of black clouds moved toward the beach, we made our way back to the dunes and the hike back to the cars. Those enjoying the trip were Doris Allen, Ruth Blattler, Ted Castell, Emmy Dale, Judy Farell, Pat Esenbach, Richard Heinzkill, Gladys Grancorvitz, Joe Lowry, Rachel Major, Glenn Meares, Dave Predeek, Gwyn Schultz, Gene Thaxton, Dorothy Turner, and leader Jane Hackett.
