Black Butte

October 22, 1983

Light rain did not dampen the spirits for those who came on the annual Black Butte fall foliage hike. The fall color show was still on for our drive to our rendezvous point—Black Butte Ranch. After we picked up Sandra Larsen, we had a smooth ride up the Butte on a recently graded road that was a great improvement over former years. None of the group spent much time on the summit having lunch because of wind-driven pelting chilly, rain. The sun nearly broke out on our descent and the view of the ranch to the south opened up for some of the last folk down. Some of the group enjoyed a soak at a secret hot spring on the ride home. Hikers were Marl Baldwin, Norm Benton, Kay Brodney, Pat Eysenbach, Bob Foster, Jane Hackett, Evan Harris, Sandra Larsen, Stan McNeil, Margo Spielman, Susan Stewart, Betty Taylor, Gene Thaxton and leader Joe Lowry.
