Collier Cone

October 16, 1983

The seven of us began our hike at the trailhead near McKenzie Pass and headed south on the Pacific Crest Trail past South Matthieu Lake and Yapoah Crater. We crossed a lava flow and walked past numerous cinder cones. The weather was pleasant and mild until we reached the rim of Collier Cone at 7500 feet elevation where a cold, brisk wind was blowing. We didn’t tarry too long to enjoy the fine view. The total round trip was 14 miles. Hikers were Sally Grosscup, Bonnie Ledford, Dot Leland, Ed Lichtenstein, Ed Lovegren, Debbie Toobert and leader Dave Predeek.
