Rosary Lakes

October 15, 1983

On a cloudy morning, 20 hikers boarded four cars and headed for the hills. We were in sunshine long before arriving at Willamette Pass. We found frost and ice, so the air was quite refreshing. Some moved on ahead on the trail to stay warm, while others followed at a more leisurely pace.

After lunch on a sunny shore of the middle lake, most of the group decided to go at least part way up the hill toward Rosary Rock. Many dropped out at various places, but some went high enough to have some fine views of South Sister and other points of interest. The leader scrambled to the top of the rock, then returned to encourage two others, who eventually stopped about 15 feet below the summit. As we were already due back at the lake to meet the others, we turned back.

It was a beautiful autumn day, with fall colors at their best. We returned to Eugene about 5:30 p.m. Those making the trip were evenly divided between nonmembers and members. Guests were Ted Castell, Judith Engle, Marion Hopkins, I.C. and Rose Kim, Whitey Lueck, Betty Metzler, Dottie Schroeder, Allan Sorenson and Betty Taylor. Members were Barb Elsen, Gladys Grancorvitz, Cynthia and Peter Lewinsohn, Bryant Mitchell, Alys Riley, Lois Schreiner, Ethel Steussy, Maureen Willison and leader Norman Benton.
