McKenzie River Paddleraft

September 25, 1983

Our flotilla of 3 paddlerafts with Kathy Rule, John Brandon and Jim Wright at the helm and one oar-raft with ORE’s Bob Doppelt at the oars moved out briskly from Paradise Landing under sunny, blue skies for an exciting float down the upper McKenzie. During lunch break, Hans Tschersich took a leisurely swim in the frigid river. During the afternoon, all rafts successfully navigated Red Sides and Highway Rapids as well as other numerous challenging minor rapids on this quite low-water-level day. The trip ended too soon at Blue River Landing with most of us looking forward to another day rafting another river . . . soon!

Participants were Mary Bridgeman, John Cecil, Barbara and Lisa Clapp, Margaret Crosland, Emmy Dale, Gerhart Hegelman, Betty and Theresa Legris, Dot Leland, Cara McKenzie, Gene Thaxton, Hans and Herta Tschersich, Kay VanNortwick, Margaret Walchli and son Paul, Jan White and son David, and leader Joe Lowry.
