Mt Yoran is a great fall hike. It has been a few years since I’ve lead this hike, so I forgot there was considerable elevation gain before you get to the base of Yoran. But I also forgot about the great view of Diamond along the last half of the trail.
September 25th is too late for the abundant huckleberries that grow along the trail, but Paula Vehrs found several mushrooms that she picked and/or identified for us all.
We had lunch at the small lakes at the base of Yoran before most of the group scrambled to the top. Here we could enjoy the vistas which included all the big peaks from Diamond to Jefferson.
A great day was had by all and was concluded over coffee in Oakridge. On Mt. Yoran were Neal Ace, Pat Eysenbach, Bob Foster, Richard Heinzkill, Karen Kiser, Norma Lockyear, Lois Schreiner, Bob and Ellen Tracy, Wes Prouty, Paula Vehrs, Merle and Doris Traudt, and leader Jane Hackett.
