Stag Lake

August 14, 1983

We left Eugene at 8:15 and arrived at the trailhead at 10:00. I had a fast group of hikers, and we arrived at Fawn Lake 45 minutes later. Since we were so ahead of schedule we had a 10:45 swim break. Feeling refreshed we hiked onto Stag Lake which was supposed to be our destination. After viewing Lakeview Mtn. we decided to bushwhack cross-country and climb. Not knowing which way to climb, we thought we took a short cut, but instead went up a rocky shoot that resembled that of the North Sister. Two of us made it to the top for lunch, and after surveying various routes down, found an easy route where we rejoined the other half of our group for a return to Stag Lake and another swim. We returned to the cars and made a stop for cold drinks before heading down Hwy 58, and arrived in Eugene at 6:45. For those down-hill skiers, we noted lots of changes going on at Willamette Pass. Those along were Doris Allen, Moki Honz, Julie Natvig, and Mike Wright, leader.
