June 26, 1983
We made one stop at the Cougar turnoff to meet with Dave Predeek who was
joining us for the day, and arrived at the trailhead shortly before 10:00 a.m.
Although the weatherman was calling for possible showers and some thunder, the
skies were mostly blue all the way to the lookout.
We encountered snow across the trail after we started up to the lookout.
The wildflowers were profuse in the meadows on a very lovely day.
We relaxed on top for almost an hour before taking a side trip to Olallie
Guard Station on the way down.
We did hear the distant rumbling thunder as we hiked back to the cars.
Upon Dave’s suggestion, we drove on down Road 1993 (the Wapiti Rd) to
McKenzie Bridge, the distance not being much greater and the view of the mountains
and valleys being well worth taking the complete loop on 1993.
We introduced some new hikers to the pie and coffee at Vi’s minus Vi,
and arrived back in Eugene at 6:00 p.m.
A leisurely and very enjoyable trip for the leader and nine followers:
Doris Allen, Mari Baldwin, John and Maggie Cecil, Bob Foster, Glenn Meares,
Dave Predeek, Dick and June Wallace, and leader Mike Wright.
