Father’s Day Bike Ride

June 19, 1983

A group of 10 headed out 15th St. and on to the Amazon bike trail. No sooner had we started, when Dick Loescher ran over a tack — with the inevitable result. The repair job was accomplished in almost record breaking time with 9 supervisors and one worker. We continued on our way—north on Garfield Street then a short bike portage over the railroad and up River Road to Owosso Avenue. We stopped at the new foot/bike bridge which crosses the river ½ mile south of the Beltline crossing. This will make the fourth foot/bike bridge on the river and will add to the wonderful system of trails that our city is acquiring. Although the bridge is about completed, it will be a year or so before the approaches are constructed. The bridge is a joint public/private venture. It will be carrying sewer, phone and power lines as well as bike riders and pedestrians.

We returned up river to the Knickerbocker bridge by the freeway, then up to the Lodge with the usual wonderful breakfast. Those on the trip were Barbara Elsen, Bob Devine, Gene Thaxton, Dick Moffit, Dick and Stan Loescher, Jackie Goodin, Don and Lucille Berry, and leader Marriner Orum.
