Hardesty Mountain

October 30, 1982

We left 19th and Patterson on time and headed out Route 58. We followed the Willamette National Forest Trail Guide to Mile Post 22, promptly overshot FS 5835 (which is between MP 21 and 22!) At least one new spur, 515, branches off to the west which is not on the WNF map (revised). We need more map updates from the Forest Service. Three members and seven nonmembers struck out at 10:30 from midway point of trail 3469, covered the three miles to the top of fog-shrouded Hardesty (as described on the trip sheet) in three hours.

We left the top a half an hour later at 2 p.m., were back at the cars by 3:30. Dorothy Hayes and trip leader picked a bag of mushrooms each (Chanterelles and Spreading Hedgehogs). If both are still alive by the time you read this, they were edible! Herb Lee and Mari Baldwin loved it so much they want membership applications (and trip schedules) sent to them, so, Trip Chairman, please oblige! And in the future, could you enclose a couple of application blanks with the blank trip report sheet sent to the trip leader prior to the hike? This was suggested by Lois Schreiner.

Hikers were Mari Baldwin, Doug Long, Dorothy Hayes, Herb and Lelia Lee, Dana Meadows, Lois Schreiner, Pat Shaw, Ruth Smith and leader Helmut Plant.
