Maxwell Butte

July 18, 1982

We Left Eugene on a clear, sunny Sunday morning anticipating a warm day and a great view. We were not disappointed. The view offered sightings as far north as Mt. Hood and south to Diamond Peak. Special arrangements were made to see the Osprey who’s nest is in a tall snag in the first quarter mile of the trail. There was talk of swimming in Twin Lakes. The mosquitoes altered this plan for all but a few bold and daring hikers. The swimmers and dippers were Carole Kompank, Parker Riddle, Karen Houglum and Mary Vogel. Abstainers were Vickie Buck, Ellen, and Steve Johnson, Ralph Nafziger, Marshall Pallett, Robin Steussy, Andy Thompson and leader Kathi Stroh.
