Fern Ridge-Coyote CreekMay 8, 1982Our canoe group met at 7:00 a.m. at 1717 Washington and were paddling at 7:45 a.m. in Coyote Creek north of the West 11th Street bridge. Although it is spring, the thin clouds held back bright warm sun and there was a cool breeze off the lake. Paddling helped keep us warm between many stops to view the bird life. The osprey were adding sticks to their nests and fishing. The yellowheaded and redwinged blackbirds were abundant, Great blue herons, ducks, flycatchers, swallow and song sparrows in evidence. Some of the group left before 11:00 a.m.; some stayed to look about. All were home by 12:30 p.m. after a hamburger and fries. Canoers were Laura Bates, Mareile Ehlers, Bobbie Kalbfleisch, Leona Mattson, Bob and Keena Northrop, Paula Vehrs and leaders Donna and Bill Eimstad. |
