Horsepasture Mnt via Saddle TrailMay 2, 1982Under cloudy skies, five undaunted souls set out to reach Horsepasture Mountain. Parking 7 miles up the East Fork of the South Fork of the McKenzie River, we started up the Saddle Trail. UP is an appropriate word as this trail doesn’t waste any time to get to Horsepasture Saddle. With snow as deep as five feet, three of us donned snowshoes to reach Horsepasture Summit (5668'). An hour and a half later we were enjoying views of the Sisters, Washington and other peaks while a storm front was moving in from the west. The trip off the mountain took all of 15 minutes! After warming up beside a blazing fire, we headed back down to the cars and Vi’s Pies. The capable group was made up of Marshall Pallett, John Cecil, Betty Legris, Don Payne, & leader Pete Cecil. |
