Berley Lakes-Santiam Pass Area

March 22, 1981

Fifteen skiers left the trailhead at Santiam Pass about 10:30 a.m. skied north on the Pacific Crest Trail for 1½ miles, then on the Duffy Lake trail about 3 miles to Lower Berley Lake and on to Upper Berley Lake for lunch. Snowfall the previous week had covered the dry spots that had been in evidence the prior weekend and, although thin in spots, provided good skiing. Snow flurries were off and on and shortened our lunch stop, but skiing through the trees heavy with fresh snow was a delight. Everyone was back at the cars about 3:30 p.m. Those enjoying the day were Emmy Dale, Tom Donnelly, Richard Heinzkill, Fran Gnose, Paul Longstreth (going only part way), Joe Lowry, Herb McMurtry, Dave Predeek, Wes Prouty, Parker Riddle, Chris Shuraleff, Velma Shirk, Gene Thaxton, Steve Uban and leader Glenn Meares.
