Beales ButteFebruary 15, 1981Being positive thinkers, we ignored the skeptics and went ahead with the trip. The trip turned out to be positive proof that just a little snow can make a great ski trip. We drove up road 252 just southeast of little Odell Butte to the RR tracks. From there we skied to logging roads that took us around the upper part of Beales Butte for good views of Big Marsh, Cowhorn Mtn., Sawtooth, Diamond Peak, Odell Butte, and Walker Mtn. That loop took us back to our ski tracks for a gentle downhill run to road 252 and back to the cars by 3:00 p.m. The eight mile ski trip took us through open view terrain, yet provided us with some nice young growth timber, as well as some fine old Ponderosa pines. Fifteen skiers enjoyed the outing including Fran Gnose, Dorothy Hayes, John Mowat, Richard Heinzkill, Marie Mulholland, Parker Riddle, Henrietta Richmond, Ann and Tony Smith, Susan Swanson, Gene Thaxton, Oliver Thornton, Dorothy Turner and co-leaders Wes Prouty and Bea Fontana. |
