Hardesty and Eagles Rest via Sawtooth TrailsJanuary 24, 1981We had planned to ski on Lava Lake Road but because snow was scarce, we decided to hike to Mt. Hardesty. Starting on Eagles Rest Trail 3462, we then took Sawtooth Trail 1401 to Hardesty. The section past Sawtooth Rocks was new to Becky and the “leader,” but Wilbur is quite familiar with that complex and interesting network of trails. He can even tell you the derivation of all the geographic names. We hiked on snow through a winter landscape. Occasional sunlight brightened our path and our lunch stop on top of Hardesty. We encountered fellow Obsidians, Bill and Lois Morse, also enjoying the fresh air and snow. The delightful trip with pleasant companions made the day a success for Wilbur Groner, Becky Kuntz and leader Velma Shirk. |
