Mount Nebo, Wendling
November 29, 1981
Permission to enter G-P’s large tree farm up the Mohawk Valley
being gladly given, and thus with no fears of being challenged by Lane
County Deputy Sheriff Justin Jenkins (remember last year, folks?), our
small but keen party of four stormed Mount Nebo, the 3,407 foot bastion
of Wendling territory, No. 4 in a series of annual treks.
Various cunning “short cuts” (!!) led us by way of Windy Point,
and eventually the flanks of Nebo hove into view.
But little else!
A partial white-out and intermittent freezing rain chilled us as lunch
Sadly, we noted the geological survey platform on top had been dislodged
(high winds or vandals?), but a brief visit to the old fire look out site
revealed the ruins intact, even the ornate one-holer.
On top of Old Nebo again were Bob Foster (sans camera), Betty Legris,
Jerry Morsello, and leader John Cecil.
