Indian Ridge Trail #3315

November 4, 1981

Infrequently-visited Indian Ridge lookout in the Blue River Ranger District was our destination for this Wednesday hike. Skillful map-reading by a car full of skillful map-readers easily deposited us at the lower trailhead. One mile up the trail, “Suicide Rock” was surveyed, examined and mulled over in depth. (Quite a drop, no chance of a candidate rolling to the bottom . . .!)

Crusty snow on exposed portions of the trail, and various hoof-prints were guessed at. The lookout tower is firm and solid looking, yet needs a coat of preservative; it is locked and shuttered for winter. Good views up French Pete Valley and of Sawtooth Ridge and Lowder Mountain (?), with Olallie lookout in the middle distance were all subjects of discussion during our sheltered lunch break in the snow.

“Indian Ridgers” were Wilbur Groner, Betty Legris, Lloyd Stark, Lorayne Stasney, and leader John Cecil.
