Frissell Point

October 28, 1981

Although in no particular hurry on this mid-week hike, our driver was rewarded with a traffic citation at milepost 51 on the McKenzie Highway . . .

Crossing Buck Bridge and climbing up Frissell-Carpenter Road, we road-walked (blocked by one tree but passable) four miles to the trailhead, and up a short connector to Frissell Point (5,144 ft. and site of a former fire lookout.) Immediately engulfed in a stinging snow storm as we reached the top, a hasty retreat was made to some sheltering trees below our “standing lunch spot!”. End of blizzard; fair skies back to the car. Later a short foray was made to locate the true beginning of our trail, which had proved so elusive before. (Ms. Legris’s homing instincts guided us aright this time . . .)

Experiencing our first mini-blizzard of the season were Fran Gnose, Catherine O’Reilly, Betty Legris, Gene Thaxton, and John Cecil (leader and lead-footed driver).
