Blue Lake

August 9, 1981

We left Eugene at 8:05 a.m. bound for our destination, Blue Lake, above Hills Creek Dam. We signed in at the Diamond Peak Trailhead at 10:00 a.m. The trail is a very interesting one. You gain and lose elevation several times before reaching the lake. You find mushrooms, huckleberries, and beautiful wild flowers along the trail. We took our lunch break after arriving at the lake about 12:15 p.m. Some chose to swim both before and after lunch, sharing the lake with its local inhabitants—frogs, polywogs, and water dogs.

Leader, Mike Wright, and Wilbur Groner struck out with a pioneering spirit to locate Carrigan Lake, some two miles further down the trail, planning to meet the rest of the party at an appointed time and place. We were able to watch a family of Ferrets playing along the trail not realizing what they were until Dallas Cole identified them from our description.

A very pleasant hike out and return trip to Eugene making one stop at Oakridge for cold drinks before arriving in Eugene at 6:00 p.m. Those on the trail were Heather Cawbrey, Rick and Maryanne Champion, Dallas Cole, Wilbur Groner, Karen Seidel and leader Mike Wright.
