Mowich Lake

July 26, 1981

We left Eugene in three cars for our hike to Mowich Lake in the Jefferson Wilderness, and by 9:00 a.m. were at the PCNST at Santiam Pass. We took the Crest Trail about seven miles to a point northwest of Three Fingered Jack where we had lunch and platted our crosscountry course the mile and a half to Mowich Lake. All were ready for a swim after the dusty, hot trail, Beth, Ellen, and Lee swimming the couple hundred yards to the large island in the lake. Refreshed by the swim and rest, we were soon at Duffy Lake and on to Santiam Lake for another short swim. As it was now near 4:30 p.m., we headed for the cars and all arrived before 7:00 p.m.—some tired and foot sore after a long, beautiful hike. Hikers and swimmers were John Cecil, Bob Foster, Beth and Ellen Gradison, Carol Hansen, Betty Legris, Mark Miller and leader Lee Hatch.
