Waldo Mtn/Salmon Lakes

June 27, 1981

A beautiful sunny day was on hand for 21 energetic hikers, ages 11–82, as we started up Waldo Mtn Trail. Rhododendrons were blooming profusely, part of the trail going through a veritable park of rhodies. Lunch was enjoyed at the top, with views of many lakes, many peaks. Some hikers spent some time with maps, identifying the different landmarks. Most of the group walked out the ridge east of the lookout for additional views. We had made such good time coming up the trail that most of the group voted to return to trailhead via Salmon Lakes.

At Upper Salmon Lake campers were encountered, and a few of the hikers waded in the cold water. Surprisingly few mosquitoes were in evidence. The falls between Upper and Lower Salmon Lakes was visited as the group bushwacked to Lower Salmon Lake, then crosscountry to pick up the Salmon Creek Trail and back to the trailhead. Hikers were Carol Brown, Linda Buie, Amy Clugston, Gladys Grancorvitz, Wilbur Groner, Joanne Haines, Mark Jordan, Evelyn and Herbert McCornack, Kenneth Miller, Jim Northrop, Ben and Joyce Phillips, Fred Schepman, Fred Swansen, Andy and Marie-Anne Thompson, Merle Traudt, Margaret Wiese, Donna Wolcott and leader Bonnie Ledford.
