Twin Lakes (North Umpqua Highway)

June 6, 1981

The trip to Twin Lakes east of Roseburg off the north Umpqua Highway was much nicer this year. No snow, but intermittent clouds and sunshine greeted us all day long. We hiked in and up to the viewpoint first, about 500' above the lakes for lunch. Looking around we could see a lot of country, including Diamond Peak, Mt. Thielsen and Mt. Bailey at times when the cloud cover cleared. The lakes below us looked like jewels when the sun shown on them. After lunch we went down and around both lakes on a good trail. Donn Chase tried his luck at fishing and caught one, but let it go. There were many flowers and plants along the way.

On the way back to Roseburg we stopped at Fall Creek wayside and hiked up a very interesting one mile trail to the falls and back. Here Donn and Jean Chase went back to Steamboat Creek and headed over to Oakridge area to their cabin. The rest of us came back to Roseburg and went out to the Del Ray Cafe at Winchester for eats. All thought it was a good day and, a real nice trip. Twin Lakers were Linda Buie, Donn and Jean Chase, Gladys Grancorvitz, Joanne Haines, Bonnie Ledford, Anne Montgomery, Harlo Perrin, Marty Perrin, Ruth Romoser, Wes Prouty, Carolyn Watters and leader Lloyd Plaisted.
