Tire MountainJune 3, 1981The weather was good for hiking, a little hazy and cloudy for good viewing, but the wild flowers were out in profusion. We had lunch on top at 12:30 p.m. The forest Service men were along for two reasons — Brad, who is our recreation person from Lowell, was there because he is new to this area and was taking this opportunity to get acquainted with a part of the Alpine Trail and the Tire Mountain Trail. The men from Oakridge were timber planners and along to show us a proposed relocation site for a section of the Alpine Trail just past the junction with the Tire Mountain Trail. They were planning a timber cut which would border a section of the trail so offered to build a new trail on the other side of the ridge. It looked like a good idea and will give us another good view out along the trail. Hikers were Mary Bridgeman, Emmy Dale, Wilbur Groner, K. C. Kraft, Eleanor Wilkerson & leader Helen Smith. Guests from Willamette National Forest were Brad Exton from Lowell Ranger Station, Keith Murray, Walt Parker and Ron Boehm from Oakridge Ranger Station. |
