French PeteMay 17, 1981The French Pete rain forest provided a little rain and a lot of forest. Blooming flora everywhere included trillium, calypso, yellow violet, Oregon grape and dogwood. We referred to the trail as “Lush,” rather than muddy, and a few shafts of sunlight brightened our lunch break. What a superb Oregon contrast to the leader’s recent New Mexico visit where the “river” of Santa Fe’s Riverside Park was at most twelve inches wide. To compensate for the calories burned off while hiking, we treated ourselves to strawberry shortcake and pie at the Lucky Logger Inn on the way home. Hiking were Mary Babarik, Kris Bruun, Fran Gnose, Jane Hackett, Susan Meyer and Karen Seidel (leader). |
