Saddle Blanket Mtn/Elk Camp Shelter
March 1, 1981
With the promise of a beautiful day, nine members and three nonmembers set
out for the Fall Creek area.
Surprisingly, our cars were stopped by snow ¾ of a mile from the trailhead.
After a brief rest at Little Blanket Shelter (4320'), we slogged through the snow
to Saddle Blanket Lookout (4969'}, which made a nice lunch stop.
Then we hiked over to Elk Camp Shelter (4380') via roads and part of the old Alpine Trail.
Not wanting to retrace our steps, we made a loop by following road 1903 back
to the cars.
We covered about 8½ miles and had from one to seven inches of
snow most of the way.
For some reason, Betty kept getting her head in the way of snow balls, tree limbs,
and metal struts!
Those enjoying the “summer-like” weather were Barry Beck,
Margaret Crosland, Ira Brown, Dallas Cole, Lee Hatch, Joanne Haines,
Joan Hedgpeth, Betty Legris, Helen Smith, Merle Traudt
and Johh and Pete Cecil, leader.
