Hardesty to June via Sawtooth RidgeFebruary 22, 1981Hardesty trailhead on Highway 58 beckoned on this clear, sharp Sunday morning, and soon our group of six members were straining (literally!) to the top of this classic hill. Several large blowdowns restricted our path; traces of snow were still evident near the old lookout site on top. Water bottles were filled at the spigot over the brow before continuing along Sawtooth Ridge to Mount June. (Passing Sawtooth Rock, we half expected to see Wilbur perched on top waving to us!) At the Mount June Lookout site, our lunch spot was shared with various other hikers and strollers. Exceptional views of all the major Oregon peaks (bar one) were had, such was the clarity of the day. Returning again on Sawtooth Ridge, more hikers were encountered (including Obsidians Leona and Mike). Altogether, a very satisfying hike by Margaret Crosland, JoAnn Haines, Lee Hatch, Betty Legris, and Peter and John Cecil, Leader. |
