Coburg Caves & Old Baldy
January 18, 1981
At 8:33 a.m. a group of 13 members and one nonmember left the South Eugene
Parking lot for a jaunt in the Coburg Hills.
Leaving McKenzie View Drive, we hiked through a swampy pasture and stands of
oak to the Coburg Caves where we had a short break.
Then it was back to following cow trails to the top of Old Baldy and a
leisurely lunch with a clear view of the Coast Range and Three Sisters.
After lunch we took a brief look at the nearby TV relay station and then back
to the cars by an alternate route.
Arriving at the cars at 2:30, four hardy Obsidians decided to make full use
of the day by climbing Mt. Pisgah.
After much prompting from Betty, we decided to end the day with a quick trip
to the top of Spencer Butte, making it a most fulfilling and pleasant day.
Hikers on Old Baldy were Barry Beck, Dallas Cole, Margaret Crosland,
Helene and Tom Johnston, Bobbie Kalbleisch, Helen Lynch, Julia Natvig,
F.F. Schipman, and Merle Traudt.
Hikers on Old Baldy, Mt. Pisgah, and Spencer Butte were John Cecil, Betty Legris,
Lee Hatch and leader Peter Cecil.
