Substitute PointJanuary 11, 1981After the perfect weather last weekend at Olallie Lookout and Guard Station, we decided to try our luck at Substitute Point in the Three Sisters Wilderness. We left town in thick fog, and after picking up Dave at McKenzie Bridge made our way to the trailhead at the end of Foley Ridge Road and were on our way by 10:30 a.m. After two miles and at 4500 ft. elevation, we were in patches of snow and soon were on two feet of hard packed snow at the foot of Substitute Point. After a pleasant lunch in the bright sun at the old lookout site on top with a great view of the Sisters only about five miles away, the day was still only half gone, so we went the additional two miles to Buck Meadows. Returning to the cars at 4:30 p.m. were Barry Beck, John Cecil, Bob Foster, Joanne Haines, Betty Legris, Dave Predeek, and leader Lee Hatch. |
