South Sister

June 21, 1981

Our party of eight left Devil’s Lake at 5:45 a.m. and headed for the “Red Ridge.” The climb was rather uneventful on the way up. The weather was real windy, but passable climbing. Half the party—leader Steve McManigal, Bob Moffitt, Richard Steffenson, and Mark Swift—carried skis to the top. The skiing down was very good. We reached Moraine Lake from the summit in 15 minutes. The hike out from Moraine Lake was a letdown after skiing down from the summit. Gene Thaxton, Tom Donnelly, Fran Gnose, and Kris Shuraleff were the other half of the party that hiked down.
