Mt. Hood, south side

We camped at Still Creek Campground. Left parking lot at 4:45 a.m. with partly clear skies. We made good time to the top of Palmer Lift. I estimate we saw 150 climbers come down from Hog’s Back. Because of strong winds we decided to continue to Hog’s Back and made a final decision to try the summit. We arrived on top at noon. Because of close to white-out conditions below Crater Rock, we reached the parking lot at 5:30 p.m. We were glad to see a warm fireplace and hot showers. Climbers were Ken Ball, Rick Peterson, Fran Gnose, Gene Thaxton, and leader Ken Daletas.
