This climb was cancelled due to lack of interest. When I retrieved the sign-up sheet Friday evening, no one had enlisted. Undaunted, I grabbed two friends and headed for Hood. A weekend is not to be wasted.

We decided to climb the hourglass. Talked to a group from Portland that did the Wy’East route. They started at 2:00 a.m.—on top of Hood at 1:30 p.m. The Wy’East route was a horror—mud, scree and running water. After hearing their nightmare tale, I silently gave thanks to all those who thought about signing up for my climb, but didn’t!! I had a fine time on the Hourglass—Mike McClellan.
