Berley Lakes - Santiam Pass area

March 8, 1980

Thirteen skiers left the trailhead at Santiam Pass about 10:30 a.m., skied north on the Pacific Crest Trail for 1½ miles, then on the Duffy Lake Trail about three miles to Lower and Upper Berley Lakes for lunch. A large igloo in very good condition was found at the entrance to Lower Berley Lake and held five people with ease. After a leisurely lunch at Upper Berley Lake, the group looped back to the Duffy trail and back to the cars by about 3:30 p.m.

The snow conditions were good, light snow flurries all day, temperature about 30° F., and an excellent group of skiers. What more could you ask!

Those enjoying the day together were Bea Fontana, Dick Heldrift, Liz Igl, Dot Leland, Wayne Lill, Joe Lowey, Glenn Meares (leader), Susan Meyer, Dave Predeek, Wes Prouty, Velma Shirk, Annabelle Street and Gene Thaxton.
