Rosary Lakes

March 1, 1980

Four skiers left for Willamette Pass, wondering if there would be enough snow to ski on, or if it would turn out to be a hike. A short distance up the trail, Joe Lowry decided to leave his skis and hike on to the lake. In the first couple miles, we found some icy stretches and some bare spots, where we carried our skis. In other areas we were able to ski, and as we got higher, we found good snow.

After lunch by the lower lake, Joe hiked out, while the ethers went on to the upper lake. We found even better snow conditions and thoroughly enjoyed skiing out on the lakes and some short downhill runs on our return. Later, we negotiated some of the icy stretches, but eventually carried the skis on the lower portion of the trail.

While the weather forecast called for rain, we had a dry day, with high clouds. We returned to Eugene by 4 p.m. Skiers, included Steve Barron, Norm Benton (leader), Joe Lowry and Gene Thaxton.
